Caring for Kitchen Cabinets

Sensibuild kitchen cabinets are finished with a durable white paint or foil wrap over a moisture-resistant MDF carcass. Under normal kitchen conditions, the finish is highly resistant to steam, splashes, and everyday cleaning products. To keep doors and drawer fronts looking their best, wipe them down regularly with a soft damp cloth and a mild washing-up liquid solution.

Avoid abrasive cloths, scouring pads, or solvent-based cleaners, which can dull or damage the finish over time. Do not allow standing water to pool at the base of units or around the sink cabinet — while the carcass is moisture-resistant, prolonged saturation can cause swelling at joints.

Soft-close hinges and drawer runners require no routine maintenance. If a door begins to hang unevenly after years of use, the hinge adjustment screws (accessible from inside the cabinet) allow you to re-align the door without removing it. A small cross-head screwdriver is all that is needed.

  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth and mild detergent
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and solvent-based products
  • Keep bases dry — do not allow standing water
  • Re-align doors using hinge adjustment screws if needed

Dining Table Care by Finish

Different table finishes have different care requirements. Find your table's finish below for specific guidance.

Natural Oil Finish (Solid Oak Tables)

Wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth. Clean with a lightly damp cloth — never soak the surface. Re-apply a food-safe furniture oil every 6–12 months to nourish the wood and maintain water resistance. Use a trivet for hot dishes and a mat under glasses to prevent ring marks.

Lacquer Finish (Extending & Bistro Tables)

The lacquer coat is heat- and moisture-resistant under normal use. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid placing very hot pans directly on the surface. Light surface scratches can be buffed out with a fine furniture wax. Do not use silicone-based polishes, which can build up and cloud the finish.

Hard-Wax Oil Finish (Industrial Pine Table)

Hard-wax oil penetrates the wood fibres rather than sitting on the surface, making it easy to spot-repair. Clean with a damp cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a specialist hard-wax oil cleaner. Re-apply hard-wax oil annually or when the surface begins to look dry. Spot repairs can be made without stripping the whole top.

Annual Maintenance Checklist

A quick annual check keeps your kitchen furniture performing well and catches minor issues before they become bigger ones.

01

Check Cabinet Door Alignment

Open and close every door. If any door drags, catches, or hangs unevenly, adjust the hinge screws. Horizontal and vertical adjustment is possible on all Sensibuild hinges without removing the door.

02

Inspect Drawer Runners

Pull each drawer fully open and check that it runs smoothly and closes flush. If a drawer feels stiff, check that nothing is obstructing the runner channel. A small amount of furniture wax on the runner sides can restore smooth operation.

03

Re-Oil Solid Oak Surfaces

Apply a thin coat of food-safe furniture oil to solid oak table tops and allow it to soak in for 30 minutes before buffing off the excess with a clean cloth. This keeps the wood nourished and the finish water-resistant.

04

Check Fixings and Leg Joints

On dining tables, check that all leg bolts and frame fixings are tight. On flat-pack tables, a small amount of movement at joints is normal over time — a quarter-turn tightening of the leg bolts is usually sufficient to restore rigidity.

05

Clean Cabinet Interiors

Empty shelves and wipe the melamine interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Check shelf pins are seated correctly and that adjustable shelves are level. This is also a good time to reorganise storage and check for any moisture ingress around the sink cabinet.
