Good knitwear lasts for years when it's looked after properly. Here's how to keep your Raine & Mae jumpers in their best condition.
Always check the care label before washing. Our merino and wool-blend jumpers are machine washable on a wool or delicate cycle at 30°C; our cotton-blend tops can be washed at 30–40°C.
Turn knitwear inside out before washing to reduce pilling and protect the outer surface of the fabric.
Use a detergent designed for wool or delicates. Avoid fabric softener on merino — it can break down the natural fibres over time.
Never hang knitwear to dry — this causes it to stretch out of shape. Instead, lay it flat on a clean towel and reshape gently while damp.
Store jumpers folded in a drawer or on a shelf rather than on hangers. Hanging knitwear causes the shoulders to stretch and distort the shape over time.
Light pilling is normal on natural-fibre knitwear. Use a fabric shaver or lint comb to remove pills gently — this restores the surface and extends the life of the garment significantly.
