View productChildren's skin is sensitive, and children's clothes take a beating. That is why we start every buying decision with the fabric. We look for natural fibres – primarily 100% cotton and cotton-blend fleeces – that are soft against skin, breathable in warm weather, and warm enough for cooler days when layered.
Where possible, we choose GOTS-certified organic cotton, which means the entire production chain – from field to finished garment – meets strict environmental and social standards. We also look for OEKO-TEX certification, which confirms that fabrics have been tested for harmful substances.
We do not stock synthetic-heavy fabrics or anything that feels scratchy or stiff. If we would not put it on a child with sensitive skin, it does not come into the shop.
Our curation process is deliberate and unhurried. Here is how a piece moves from consideration to our collection.
We assess the fabric composition, weight, and hand-feel. Anything that does not meet our softness and breathability standards is set aside immediately.
We look at seam quality, stitching density, and finishing details. Reinforced stress points, flat seams, and quality zips and buttons are non-negotiable.
Every style is washed multiple times at the recommended temperature. We check for shrinkage, colour fading, and whether the shape holds. If it does not pass, it does not make the cut.
Children need to be able to move freely. We assess each piece for ease of dressing, range of movement, and whether it sits comfortably without pulling or restricting.
We favour designs that feel considered and timeless over trend-led pieces that date quickly. A good children's dress or sweatshirt should feel as relevant next season as it does today.
Only once a piece passes every stage does it earn a place in our shop – in Cowes and online. We would rather stock fewer pieces we believe in than a large range of compromises.
We prioritise OEKO-TEX certified and GOTS-certified organic cotton fabrics, which are tested for harmful substances and free from common irritants. However, every child is different, and if your child has a specific skin condition, we would recommend checking the fabric composition listed on each product page and consulting your GP if you are unsure.
Most of our pieces are machine washable at 30°C. We recommend washing inside out to preserve colours and embroidery, and avoiding tumble drying where possible – air drying keeps the fabric in better condition for longer. Full care instructions are on the label of each garment.
We test all our fabrics for colour-fastness before stocking them. Our pieces are designed to hold their colour through repeated washing at the recommended temperature. Washing at lower temperatures and avoiding harsh detergents will help maintain vibrancy over time.
Our cotton pieces are pre-washed or pre-shrunk during production to minimise shrinkage. Washing at the recommended temperature (30°C for most items) will help maintain the original size and shape.
We recommend air drying where possible to preserve the fabric structure and extend the life of each garment. If you do use a tumble dryer, use the lowest heat setting and remove items while still slightly damp to reshape before they dry fully.
GOTS stands for Global Organic Textile Standard. It means the cotton has been grown organically without harmful pesticides and that the entire production chain – from raw fibre to finished garment – meets strict environmental and social criteria. It is one of the most rigorous certifications available for textile products.
The first thing we check. If it is not soft enough to wear against a child's skin all day, it does not come in.
Children's clothes need to survive real life. We look for reinforced seams, quality fastenings, and fabrics that hold their shape.
Elasticated waists, adjustable straps, and child-friendly zips make mornings easier for everyone.
We choose pieces that feel considered and lasting, not trend-led. A good piece should still feel right next season.
We look for certifications like GOTS and OEKO-TEX that give us confidence in how and where a garment was made.
